Google Just Gave You a Way to See If AI is Recommending Your Business

(Here’s How to Check)

“How do I know if my business shows up in AI search?”

Ah… the million-dollar question!

Speaking of questions, did you know that every single day, just in the U.S., people ask ChatGPT more than 330 million questions?

I mean… can you even think of 330 million questions to ask someone?

That’s a lot of questions!

And while that’s only about a tenth of the requests that Google sees each day, it’s still a massive number, and I can confidently say it’s picking up speed.

All this to say, there is a good chance that someone out there is asking AI a question that your business should be showing up for or answering.

In a different article, I already explained how to get your business to show up in AI search results , but now the next question is:

“How do I know it’s working?”

“How do I know if my business shows up in AI search?”

Well, you know what they say: with every great question comes a great answer.

Well… not really. 😄

Up until recently, if you want to know whether or not your business was showing up in AI search, you had to either

a) hire a marketing company or

b) pay for one of the many SEO based AI search result ranking tools that now also track AI search results.

Now, both options are still very good. But if you want a simple answer to the question, things just got a whole lot easier because Google just launched a way to see whether AI is recommending your business (or not) right inside Google Search Console.

So today, I want to walk you through exactly what this is, how to find it, and how to read it, in plain English, no marketing degree required.

As usual, I’ll start with the basics, since my main goal with these articles is to keep things simple and easy to understand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wait, What’s Google Search Console?

Before we get into the new report, let’s back up for a second, because I know not everyone reading this lives and breathes marketing.

Google Search Console is a free tool from Google that shows you how your website is doing in Google Search.

Think of it like a report card for your website:

How often it shows up in search results, how many people click on it, which pages are doing well, that kind of thing.

If you’ve never used it before, don’t worry. It’s free, and if your website was built by a decent web designer (like us, hey!), it’s usually already connected.

If you’re not sure whether yours is set up, ask whoever manages your website, ask your web developer directly, or give us a call and we can help check it out.

Now, onto the new part.

The New AI Visibility Report

Starting in June of this year, Google began rolling out a new section in Search Console that lets you see your AI search visibility, meaning how often your website shows up in Google’s AI results.

That includes AI Overviews (the AI-written summary that shows up at the top of some Google searches) and AI Mode (Google’s newer, more conversational search experience).

Here’s what the report shows you:

• How many times your pages appeared inside Google’s AI answers

• Which specific pages on your website are showing up

• Broken down by country, device, and date

Simple as that.

No complicated setup, no new account; it’s already built into the tool you (or your web person) likely already have access to.

Where to Find Google’s New AI Search Results Performance in Google Search Console

Here’s the walkthrough, in 3 simple steps:

#01

Go to Google Search Console and log in (again, ask your web developer if you’re not sure how to access this for your site).

To log in, visit: https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome

#02
Once you’re in, go to the left-hand menu and look for “Performance.”
#03
Click on the small downward-facing arrow to reveal the “Generative AI” option, and click on it. Voila!

Here you can see the type of results it shows you, and this customer has shown up over 22,000 times in just 3 months (so don’t underestimate how important this can be).

It also shows you what pages are showing up the most, and how many times:
A quick, important note: this feature is still rolling out gradually.
Not every website has access to it yet.
If you look and don’t see it, that doesn’t mean something’s wrong with your site; it likely just means your property hasn’t gotten the rollout yet. Worth checking back every few weeks.

The Catch…

If it sounds too good to be true, there’s always a catch.

So, here’s where I want to be upfront with you, because I don’t want you walking away thinking this report tells you everything.

It only covers Google.

This report shows your visibility within Google’s own AI features.

It won’t tell you anything about how you’re doing on ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude. Those are separate systems, and unfortunately, as of September 2026, no single dashboard shows them all in one place.

That said, as I mentioned earlier in this article, ChatGPT, the most-used AI platform, handles roughly 330 million searches per day.

And while that sounds like a huge number (because it is), it’s still nothing compared to the estimated 2.5 to 3 billion searches Google handles every single day.

So, while Google’s new AI report only shows you what’s happening within Google’s AI search results, that doesn’t make the data any less valuable.

In fact, it’s a HUGE indicator of whether your business is showing up in AI search results overall, and it can be incredibly helpful for understanding your visibility.

So, just because it’s “only showing Google’s AI search results” doesn’t mean you should knock it. It’s still a very, very useful piece of the AI search visibility puzzle.

It shows impressions, not clicks.

Right now, the report tells you how often you showed up, not how many people clicked through to your website afterward.

Google has said more data is coming eventually, but for now, think of this as “were you in the conversation,” not “did it convert into a visit.”

One good week doesn’t mean much on its own.

Don’t panic over one low day, and don’t celebrate too hard over one good one.

Traffic and visibility naturally move around. What actually matters is the trend over several weeks or months: is the number generally climbing, staying flat, or dropping?

So What Do You Actually Do With This Information?

Alright, here’s the practical part.

If you’re not showing up much at all:

Go back to the basics we’ve talked about throughout this series.

Is your Google Business Profile accurate and up to date?

Does your website clearly and directly answer the real questions your customers ask?

Are your Google reviews specific and consistent?

Those fundamentals are exactly what feeds this report.

Here’s an article where I discuss in more detail how to ensure your business is showing up in AI search results: Article.

If you’re showing up, but only on certain pages:

Take a look at what those specific pages have in common.

Chances are, they’re clear, direct, and answer a specific question well. Use that as your model for the pages that aren’t showing up yet.

If a page you’d expect to see is missing entirely:

That usually means the page needs to be more specific, clearer, and better structured with real headings and direct answers, rather than vague, general marketing language.

Check back monthly, not daily.

This isn’t something to obsess over every morning. Pull it up once a month, look at the trend, and adjust from there.

So, let’s now take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

For the longest time, if you asked “how do I know if my business shows up in AI search,” the honest answer was that you didn’t, not really.

Now, at least on Google’s side, you’ve got an actual number to check yourself against.

It’s not the whole picture.

It won’t show you ChatGPT or Perplexity.

But it’s a real, honest signal, straight from Google, and honestly, that’s more than most small businesses had access to a few months ago.

And most importantly, it’s very simple!

So go check it out.

Even if it’s not live for your site yet, you’ll know exactly what to look for when it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my business shows up in AI search?

The most direct way right now is through Google Search Console’s new generative AI performance report, found under the Performance section. It shows how often your website appears inside Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode.

What is the Google Search Console AI Overviews report?

It’s a report inside Google Search Console that shows how often your website’s pages appear inside Google’s AI-generated search answers, broken down by page, country, device, and date.

Why don’t I see an AI report in my Search Console account?

The feature is still rolling out gradually; not every website has access yet. If you don’t see it, check back periodically; it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong with your site.

Does the AI visibility report show clicks or just impressions?

Right now, it shows impressions only, meaning how often you appeared, not how many people clicked through afterward. Google has said it may add more data over time.

Does this report show my visibility in ChatGPT or Perplexity too?

No. This report only covers Google’s own AI features (AI Overviews, AI Mode, and AI in Discover). It doesn’t include data from other AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude.

How often should I check my AI visibility report?

Monthly is usually enough. Daily fluctuations aren’t meaningful on their own; what matters is whether the overall trend is climbing, flat, or declining over time.

What should I do if my AI visibility numbers are low?

Go back to the fundamentals: make sure your Google Business Profile is accurate, your website clearly answers real customer questions, and your reviews are specific and consistent. Those are the same factors that feed AI visibility in the first place.
